Hong Kong is set to host the International Gas Union (IGU) Council 2026 and the "Empowering a Sustainable Future" Summit from October 26 to 29. The event, organized by The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), will gather approximately 70 international delegates for the council meeting and around 500 government officials, business executives, academics, and industry experts for the summit.
The "Empowering a Sustainable Future" Summit, held on October 29, will focus on four key themes: Asia Pacific's role in natural gas market development, China's natural gas market, strategic energy evolution in Asia, and the role of finance in energy development. Discussions will cover low-carbon energy, artificial intelligence, and green finance.
Distinguished speakers will include Mr Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology, and Ms Li Yalan, Vice President of the IGU. The summit will also feature an exhibition showcasing new technologies from energy enterprises.
As part of the event, Towngas will offer technical tours to a pilot modular hydrogen power generation project in Sai Kung, demonstrating the use of hydrogen for electricity generation and EV charging. Delegates will also visit a waste-to-energy project that converts biogas into town gas. The IGU represents over 90% of the global gas market share, and its presence in Hong Kong highlights the city's role in addressing global energy challenges.
