This ambition is increasingly intertwined with Shenzhen's emergence as a major wholesale jewelry and fabrication hub. Shenzhen's Shuibei market, now Asia's largest by volume, handles significant gold trading and is identified in its five-year plan as a competitive industry.

The collaboration allows Shenzhen's jewelry manufacturers to access gold from Hong Kong, fabricate products, and export them efficiently. This process benefits from Hong Kong's offshore gold leasing and Shenzhen's bonded zones, minimizing customs duties and mitigating price fluctuation risks for manufacturers.

New initiatives like Hong Kong's Delivery Connect facilitate the movement of physical gold between the Hong Kong and Shanghai Gold Exchanges, which have vaults in Shenzhen. This integration is expected to make it easier for Shenzhen merchants to lease gold and capitalize on price differentials.

As Hong Kong develops yuan-denominated gold financial products, it will offer Shenzhen jewelers more tools for hedging and risk management. This synergy aims to create a comprehensive gold trading ecosystem, combining finance, wholesale, manufacturing, and retail across both cities.
