The revamped port is designed to handle a daily capacity of 200,000 passenger trips, with potential to increase to 300,000 upon completion of the MTR's Northern Link project. This upgrade is expected to streamline the flow of people, goods, capital, and information between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, fostering deeper integration within the Greater Bay Area.

Officials anticipate a significant increase in daily passenger traffic, with initial estimates suggesting between 100,000 to 200,000 passenger trips per day, up from the current average of 40,000. The new checkpoint will also have a daily capacity of 15,000 vehicles, compared to the previous 9,000.

Implemented under a "collaborative inspection and joint clearance" model, the new port aims to reduce clearance times for eligible passengers from approximately 30 minutes to around five minutes. This efficiency is expected to benefit business travellers, visitors, and residents, and facilitate cross-border collaboration in industrial innovation and talent flow.

Shenzhen officials have confirmed that extensive crowd control and security measures are in place, with over 200 rehearsals conducted to ensure a smooth operational launch and to manage anticipated peak travel flows.
